Anticipating the adverse effects of the El Niño weather phenomenon, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of Pampanga has approved the reallocation of PHP20 million, augmenting the existing PHP31 million fund dedicated to mitigating its impact. This decision, made on March 5, 2024, brings the total budget to PHP51 million, aimed at supporting farmers, fishermen, and livestock growers affected by drought conditions.
Provincial agriculturist Jimmy Manliclic reported that approximately 814 farmers, managing over 1,230 hectares of land, have already experienced crop damages estimated at PHP57.5 million due to drought and pest infestations. The allocated funds will provide financial assistance, fuel, and electric subsidies to the affected agricultural sector.
Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to supporting its agricultural communities during this challenging period. The proactive financial measures aim to alleviate the economic strain on those whose livelihoods are directly impacted by the prolonged dry spell.
